2022 Annual Meeting of the Membership with speaker Dr. Lorri Glover

The East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) Board of Directors invites you to the ETHS Annual Meeting of the Membership on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the East Tennessee History Center (601 S. Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville). Join us for a time for members to come together, greet old friends, make new ones, and to celebrate the region's history.

We will kick off the evening with official business followed by a special membership address from Dr. Warren Dockter, President and CEO of ETHS. Dr. Dockter will review the last year of activity and share what is being planned for the year to come.

For the evening program, Dr. Lorri Glover, a historian of the early American South, will discuss how the twenty-first century ushered in innovations in historical sources, research, and interpretations. She will also point to ways that these scholarly trends can broaden and enrich East Tennesseans’ understanding of their region’s diverse and inspiring history. The upcoming 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding and the planned expansion of ETHS exhibits offer a unique opportunity for East Tennesseans to reflect on their history—and their future.

Please note, the Annual Awards of Excellence will not be included in this year's Annual Meeting and will instead be hosted on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. More details on the awards ceremony are to come.

About the Speaker
Lorri Glover is the John Francis Bannon Endowed Chair in the Department of History at Saint Louis University. She has published widely in early American and southern history, including The Fate of the Revolution: Virginians Debate the Constitution (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2016) and Eliza Lucas Pinckney: An Independent Woman in the Age of Revolution (Yale University Press, 2020).

Glover worked for many years on a Teaching American History team in East Tennessee. She often participates in the George Washington Teacher Institutes at Mount Vernon, and in 2020 she joined the team of authors for McGraw-Hill’s high school and middle school American history textbooks.

She has served as past president of the Southern Association for Women Historians and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Southern History and the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography. In 2020, Glover and Craig Thompson Friend edited Reinterpreting Southern Histories (LSU Press). The collection of nineteen original essays, written by some of the nation’s most prominent historians, explores the current state, recent innovations, and prospects of the richly diverse and transforming field of southern history.
